ZSLs FAIRER Approach
ZSL is committed to a socially just and equitable approach to conservation and has recently launched its FAIRER (Fair, Accountable, Inclusive, Respectful, Ethical and Reflective) conservation programme. This is cross-institutional programme that works to not only identify, manage and mitigate the environmental and social risks of ZSL’s conservation work, but enhance the positive social and environmental impacts our work can achieve. Through this programme, we aim to better deliver conservation impact whilst safeguarding and centering the local communities, people, and places with which we work, alongside building the values and reflexivity required to deliver FAIRER approaches.
Purpose of the role
The Equity, Rights and Social Safeguarding Manager will have a major focus on enabling ZSL to ensure effective, inclusive, and equitable conservation, enabling us to track progress in the Conservation and Policy Directorate, share capacity across our global portfolio and increase the visibility and transparency of ZSL’s environmental and social safeguards and rights-based approach at the global scale.
This role will focus on the oversight of the implementation of ZSL’s core social safeguarding standards and will involve working with in-country colleagues to set up relevant safeguarding tools and processes and provide training on their implementation. The post holder will be a technical expert on social and environmental safeguarding and will help advance environmental and social safeguards and associated rights-based policies that sit across ZSL.
