New PhD Assistantship position at the University of Florida starting in January 2023. Review of applications begins next week. See the position posting and some details below.

Online science communication (e.g., social media, podcasting, online programming) is becoming increasingly important in ecology. We are seeking a highly motivated individual for this unique Ph.D. program to develop and evaluate the impacts of new online science communication strategies. This position will be co-advised by Drs. Marcus Lashley and Carolina Baruzzi. This position is fully funded for 4 years and includes a stipend ($25,000), full tuition waiver, and health insurance. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate impacts of existing efforts (i.e., podcasts affiliated with Natural Resource University network, @ufdeerlab and @ufwildlife social media platforms, and online prescribed fire training) and use results to optimize and test strategies for future science communication. Duties will include assisting in development of outreach content related to wildlife conservation in the southeastern United States, management of social media platforms, and submission of formal evaluations of science communication efforts to peer-reviewed journal outlets. Leading or assisting ongoing field ecology research will be encouraged based on individual interest provided it produces outreach content. There is flexibility to develop specific topics for dissertation chapters based on individual interest. Desired start date: January 2023
