Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to share our recently published paper in Ambio (Open Access) on hunters’ values and sustainability certification as a governance tool in recreational hunting:

https://doi.org/10.1007/s13280-026-02412-z

Using a discrete choice experiment, the study shows that participating hunters prioritise ecological criteria while also weighing achievement-oriented motivations and the quality of the hunting experience.

The paper also discusses how sustainability certification may reduce information asymmetries by making game management practices more transparent and verifiable, contributing to debates on hunting governance and the social legitimacy of contested wildlife-use practices.

We hope this work will be of interest to researchers and practitioners working on human–wildlife relations, sustainable wildlife use, hunting governance, and sustainability certification.

I would welcome any comments or opportunities to discuss possible applications.

Best regards,

Olmo
