Abstract submission is now open for our session at the World Biodiversity Forum 2026! 🌿
📍 Davos, Switzerland | 🗓️ 14–19 June 2026
Short deadline!! : 18th November
Conservation today is happening in a world marked by ecological urgency, cultural diversity, and complex political realities. In such a context, it’s increasingly important to draw on the social sciences in conservation to understand how people, institutions, histories, and knowledge systems shape how conservation works and looks like in practice.
During our session at the World Biodiversity Forum: “Bridging Worlds: The Role of Conservation Social Science at the Science–Policy–Society Interface", the Social Science Working Group (SSWG) invites conversation on how to build inclusive, reflexive, and ethical conservation practice. Themes include:
Approaches to meaningful stakeholder engagement and co-production of knowledge. The role of Indigenous and local knowledge in shaping conservation futures. Assessing social impacts and well-being in conservation practice. Mainstreaming equity, justice, and cultural competence in conservation institutions. Training and supporting new generations of conservation social scientists. We will also reflect on ongoing challenges: power imbalances, colonial legacies, underrepresentation of scholars and practitioners from the Global South, and unequal access to knowledge. These tensions continue to shape how conservation is imagined and implemented.
