Spotlight on Indigenous and Community-led Biodiversity Mapping and Monitoring: Invitation to film screening and discussion

To celebrate the upcoming International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples  on Saturday 9th August, the Transformative Pathways Project, the National Ecosystem Assessment (NEA) Initiative, and the ICCA Registry, together with UNEP-WCMC's partners, are hosting an event on Friday 1st August 2025 titled "Spotlight on Indigenous and community-led biodiversity mapping and monitoring".

This event is open to anyone who is interested to learn more about the critical role that Indigenous Peoples and local communities are playing in mapping and monitoring the state of biodiversity in their lands and territories, the methodological techniques involved, and how Indigenous and community-led mapping and monitoring can better support governments to make evidence-informed decisions about biodiversity. Participants at this event will have an opportunity to:

a.      Hear the stories of Indigenous Peoples and local communities who are leading efforts to map and monitor biodiversity through a film screening of "Mapping and Monitoring on Indigenous Territories" produced by LifeMosaic as part of the Transformative Change project (https://www.lifemosaic.net/eng/tp )

b.      Engage in a dialogue with panellists and participants on the challenges, opportunities and future pathways for scaling-up Indigenous and community-led biodiversity mapping and monitoring.

The event will be held in person at the Main Seminar Room (David Attenborough Building) and online, 16:00 - 18:00 BST. To sign-up to the event, please register (here).
