Join our Summer Course - Exploring Coastal Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation
Build practical skills to design and implement sustainable coastal Nature-based Solutions. This multisdisciplinary summer course integrates quantitative natural and physical sciences (e.g., geomorphology, hydrodynamics, ecology) with qualitative and quantitative social sciences (e.g., environmental governance, socioeconomics, participatory methods), combining evidence-based theoretical frameworks, targeted field and laboratory exercises, and structured collaborative approaches.
Learn Nature-based Solutions principles from a socio-ecological perspective and integrate interdisciplinary insights to tackle environmental challenges in an equitable, just, and inclusive way for coastal communities.
The program will be coordinated by the University of the Algarve, with contributions from a team of specialists from the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research, Centre for Marine Sciences, Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale, Technische Universität Dortmund, and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), and Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ.
Who should apply: Early-career researchers (MSc & PhD) in environmental sciences, geography, geosciences, or biological sciences, and related fields — and coastal managers seeking evidence-based, applied approaches.
The deadline for applications is: 20/03/2026
