Buenos días colleagues and SCB members,

The organizers of the SCB's 28th International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2017 [ http://conbio.org/mini-sites/iccb-2017 ] ) want to make the meeting as inspirational and participatory as possible. As such, we seek your input and suggestions on potential ICCB plenary speakers.

The ICCB Scientific Committee invites all those interested in ICCB 2017 to complete this suggested speaker form [ https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ICCB2017plenary ] to nominate your conservation hero as potential plenary speaker at ICCB 2017.

Make your suggestion by Friday, 9 December .

Special consideration will be given to proposed speakers who focus on drivers and/or solutions to current conservation challenges and who use inter-disciplinary approaches to addressing key and cutting edge questions in conservation science.

The Committee also prioritizes speakers who have made outstanding contributions to conservation on the ground.

We greatly appreciated everyone's participation and input! Please note that we can invite just a few plenary speakers as we have limited slots and we aim to ensure gender and cultural diversity across all speakers.

ICCB 2017 takes place 23 - 27 July 2017 in Cartagena, Colombia. The meeting theme Insights for sustaining life on Earth is a response to the current challenges faced by conservation science worldwide when defining a path for a better tomorrow for both biodiversity and people who depend upon it. Conservation science has a critical role to play in ensuring the success of this commitment by providing insights to inform local, national, and international efforts to make these aspirations an effective, just, and enduring reality.

ICCB is more than an opportunity to showcase the work of conservation scientists. It’s a place for intensive dialogue on the greatest conservation challenges of our time, training for young professionals, and the creation of conservation activities.

SCB is striving to maximize the diversity of attendees beyond conservation scientists and participants from academic, government and non-governmental organizations. We invite environmental educators, economists, and representatives from indigenous communities and the private industry from around the world to join us for lively discussions on topics as varied as biological conservation, religion, conservation marketing, economics, psychology and more.

More than 2,000 scientists and students will attend ICCB 2017 in Cartagena, Colombia.
