Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Human Dimensions of Natural Resources

Position: 100% appointment for 18-months
Overview: The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences seeks a highly motivated individual to study the human dimensions of natural resources, focusing particular attention on recreational fisheries in the Great Lakes Basin. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research to address the spread of aquatic invasive species within the primary discipline of conservation psychology. He or she will assess correlates of human behavior and reported preferences for policy changes to a social-ecological system, as well as work in close collaboration with environmental social scientists, fisheries biologists, and managers. The position will require out-of-state travel to field sites and engagement with fishery stakeholder groups.
Primary responsibilities include:
Coordinate data collection and entry for a regional survey of anglers across Great Lakes states
Manuscript preparation
Data analysis using a range of social science statistical platforms
Manage datasets and report writing
Create visualizations for communicating research results
Present at scientific conferences and workshops
Supervise undergraduate students and interact with graduate students
Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in the environmental social sciences or an interdisciplinary field that
integrates the social and natural sciences within the past five years. Must hold a valid driver’s license. Demonstrated experience working with survey data. Interest and experience in methodologies such as stated choice modeling and structural equation modeling are preferred. Excellent writing, communication, and statistical skills. A high level of organization. Ability to work independently, supervise a team of students, and collaborate with diverse members of the research team.
