Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
of Sociology of the Environment and Natural Resources
The Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position in Sociology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The appointment is expected to begin in August 2019.
Position: We seek a candidate with strong theoretical and empirical skills whose research and teaching interests and expertise focus on the sociology of the environment and natural resources. The incumbent candidate will address environment and natural resource issues in ways that will complement current faculty expertise in our Environment & Community specialization area, and also contribute to at least one of our other areas of specialization (Social Inequality & Demography). The incumbent candidate will be expected to teach either undergraduate social theory and/or social statistics as well as undergraduate and graduate courses linked to their areas of expertise and to departmental needs.
Minimum Qualifications Assistant or Associate Professor Ranks:
1) A PhD in Sociology, Rural Sociology, or a functional equivalent as of the employment date
2) Demonstrated accomplishment and/or clear potential for success in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and extramural funding.
Preferred Qualifications Assistant or Associate Professor Ranks:
1) Evidence of a program of research conducive to external funding is required, with documented grant-writing experience desired.
2) A future research agenda including elements of regional relevance is desirable. The balance among teaching, research, and service will be consistent with a faculty role in an Extensive Carnegie Doctoral Research University.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for Associate Professor Rank
1) Established record of excellence in teaching and mentoring in Sociology
2) Established record of effectiveness in research and service related to Sociology of the Environment and Natural Resources
3) Record of successful grant writing
