Call for Nominations for SCB Officers
Nominations Due by 4 November

Make a difference in conservation and give back to your conservation community by nominating yourself or someone else to serve on the SCB Board of Governors!

Serving on the SCB Board of Governors allows you to nurture our global community of conservation scientists and practitioners. Although serving on the Board is an honor, it is not honorary, it is real work. As a governor, you make important decisions about our finances, Executive Office, journals, seven Sections and dozens of Chapters, global congresses, SCB's ecological footprint, our efforts to promote diversity, and our engagement on global conservation policy.

Every governor attends two in-person meetings and several virtual meetings per year, chairs an SCB committee, and appoints and supervises chairs of one-to-three other committees. The meetings are stimulating and exciting, and the work is satisfying.

We invite you to nominate SCB members to stand for election to the following offices on the Board of Governors for the Society for Conservation Biology:

·        President-Elect (6 year term: 2 years as President-Elect, 2 years as President, 2 years as Past-President)

·        Secretary (4 year term)

·        Vice President for Membership (4 year term)

At this point, the Governance Committee has no candidates in mind. Historically most nominations have been self-nominations. Before you nominate someone other than yourself, please ask that person if she or he is willing to be considered. Please indicate the office(s) for which you seek consideration. Each nominee must be a current member of SCB.

Please submit nominations as soon as possible and no later than 4 November 2016. The Governance Committee will send additional information to each potential candidate, and ask each nominee to fill out a short questionnaire. After interviewing nominees by skype or phone, the Governance Committee will put forward two or three candidates for each office. The term of each elected officer will begin July 1, 2017.

To submit a nomination, or to request additional information, please email the Governance Committee as soon as possible. Please indicate 'SCB elections' in the subject line.

The SCB Board of Governors meets in person twice per year. In 2015, Board and staff met at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia, USA (pictured) and at ICCB-ECCB in Montpellier, France. In 2016, the Board met in Washington, DC and Singapore.
