Please find below an announcement for another event with Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas to be held next week on the CU Boulder campus.  (This is in addition to the Tuesday, Oct. 29 lecture I posted about a day or so ago.)

The Department of English at CU Boulder invites all undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff to a discussion and talk with Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas about his most recent book, JAJ: A Haida Manga.  It will be held next Monday, October 28th at 5:00 in The Center for British & Irish Studies in Norlin Library (with sandwiches served at 4:30).

A poster is attached.  The event is free and open to the public.

Here is a description of the book:

"With gorgeous imagery, visual artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas brings to life the tumultuous history of first contact between Europeans and Indigenous peoples and the early colonization of the northern western coast.  The story follows several historical figures including Johan Adrian Jacobsen (JAJ)--a young Norwegian fisherman and aspiring ethnologist who comes to the Haida village of Masset to collect specimens for a German museum--through a time span that includes first contact, the devastation of the smallpox epidemic, and the mass resettlement of disenfranchised peoples, both Indigenous and European."

Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas's JAJ: A Haida Manga was selected as this year's Common Read for incoming English Department majors at CU Boulder.  It has also received the 2024 Mosaic Award issued by the Denver-based Pop Culture Classroom (https://popcultureclassroom.org/2024/06/10/pop-culture-classroom-announces-2024-excellence-in-graphic-literature-awards-top-honorees/).
