Dear colleagues,
For folks interested in python, text mining, and other digital humanities topics, CU Boulder Libraries has setup a trial subscription of Constellate by JSTOR Labs, a platform for learning and performing computational text analysis, building datasets, and sharing analytics course materials, using multiple content sources including JSTOR, Portico, Chronicling America, and others. The subscription offers access to build larger datasets, tutorials, Jupyter notebooks for learning/teaching/analyzing, dashboards, and more visualization options. This trial is active now through May 31, 2024.
Access: Constellate is set up for use via IP and is also working with EZProxy for off campus use (so VPN is not necessary). For advanced features, however, it is necessary to create an account with your @colorado.edu email. Here is a link to the main access point on the Libraries’ A-Z Databases page: https://libguides.colorado.edu/az.php?q=constellate
Learning: They offer lots of free virtual trainings and workshops, including text mining, programming with python (starts next week!), and LLMs/ChatGPT: https://constellate.org/events. If you would like to co-learn Constellate with CRDDS and the CUB Libraries, let us know and we’ll setup practice sessions.
Here are some links to documentation the reps sent with the trial activation:
· A user quick start
· A 30 minute video exploring text analysis for research.
· Guidance on logging in and affiliating yourself with your institution
· Documentation on sharing files from Constellate (including lessons with students)
· Details about the content included in Constellate
· How to Share Files on Constellate
· A description of the different types of datasets you can create in Constellate
Cheers,
Nickoal, CRDDS
