Hi CANVAS,

The AIM Lab at the UNC TEACCH Autism Program is looking for paid Community Advisors for two autism research projects. One project is led by our lab. The other is a national, NIH-funded study where I help lead the community advisory board.

Community advisors give feedback so that research fits with your real experiences and needs. No research background is needed. Both opportunities are fully remote, and you can live anywhere in the United States.

Please apply by February 22. We will begin reviewing applications right after this deadline.

Project 1: School Professionals Advisory Group (AIM Lab, UNC TEACCH)

  • Who can apply: Anyone who works with students in a school setting. This includes teachers, aides, counselors, psychologists, administrators, nurses, therapists, and coaches.

  • What the project is about: We are working on better ways for schools to recognize bullying, especially for students who are autistic or have ADHD.

  • What you would do: Join a small group of 12-15 people to help improve our study questions. There will be three, 60-minute Zoom meetings (March-May 2026, about once a month).

  • Pay: $100 per meeting (3 meetings total).

Project 2: Adult Autism Services Advisory Group (NIH-Funded, Multi-Site Study)

  • Who can apply: Autistic adults (18+), their family members, service providers, and people involved in autism advocacy or policy.

  • What the project is about: Researchers from several universities are studying what services help autistic adults have a good quality of life and what supports are still needed.

  • What you would do: Join small group Zoom meetings (7-10 people) to share your experiences and ideas. There may also be short activities in between meetings.

  • Time commitment: About 6 to 12 hours per year for 3 years.

  • Compensation: $100 per hour.

If you’re not sure whether this is a good fit, you can reply to this email and ask. Community advisors directly shape the questions we ask and the materials we use.

Sincerely,

Hannah E. Morton, PhD (she/her)
