Say YES to Affordable Childcare in Larimer County.

Support Affordable Childcare in Larimer County

Dear BGCLC Community and Supporters,

Like many, I am feeling the stress and fatigue of the constant uncertainty being created through various policy and funding changes being made by the new federal administration this year. The whiplash of the daily news cycle is challenging both as a nonprofit leader and as the mother of a 13-year-old teenager who is also evolving daily. During a recent conversation with a friend, I revealed that my remedy for getting through the days is to focus on raising a good human and doing what I can to support the betterment of my own community.

There is no better way to help shape your home community than by participating in local elections. The decisions made and opportunities created on November 4th will impact us all and it's important to be a part of that process. That's why Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County is formally endorsing a YES vote on 1B. Affordable child care is a necessary foundation for working families and a strong local economy.

When we enrolled my son in preschool just over a decade ago, the annual price tag already rivaled in-state college tuition. In Larimer County, the average cost of childcare is over $15,000 per child, per year. We were fortunate to have a household income that could afford the investment, but as a single parent now, I'm not sure that would be possible. In fact, 60% of children with working parents don't have access to early child care in our communities.

The revenue generated through 1B will be strategically distributed to local families and providers to make early child care more accessible and affordable. It will also strengthen the industry workforce and allow local child care centers to expand and better meet the growing need for services in Larimer County. With 90% of brain development happening by the age of five, there is no better investment of your tax dollars as these children will be the next generation of local leaders and workforce innovators in our community.

While Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County will likely not directly benefit from the revenue generated by 1B, we know that the issues created by a lack of high quality, affordable, and accessible child care greatly impact the families that we serve and the communities where we live. Please vote YES on 1B and join us in building a brighter future for the youngest members of our communities!

Early in-person voting begins on October 27th and Election Day is Tuesday, November 4th. Ballots will be accepted until 7:00 p.m. on November 4th. You can cast your vote or drop off your completed ballot at any of these Larimer County voting locations. It is highly recommended that any mail-in ballots be returned through the postal service by Monday, October 27th.

With gratitude,

Allison Hines
