Topline: While the outcome wasn't what Coloradans wanted, the Denver Broncos hosting the AFC Championship at Empower Field against the New England Patriots this weekend supported economic activity for Colorado.
Hosting playoff games delivers major economic impact:
Out-of-state fans attending Broncos playoff games are expected to spend approximately $24 million per game in Colorado. When accounting for indirect and induced effects, that spending generates roughly $46 million in total economic activity statewide.
Visitor spending fuels the boost:
With an estimated 15%–25% of attendees traveling from out of state, fans may spend $1,140 to $2,000 per visitor on hotels, food, transportation, retail, and tickets — equating to $17 million to $30 million in direct spending per playoff game.
The AFC Championship raised the stakes:
By hosting the AFC Championship, Colorado was poised to see at least another $46 million in economic activity. When the Broncos host playoff games, Colorado’s economy wins.
