Hello Everyone,
This is a reminder that you are registered to join us for the Big Thompson Watershed Coalition community field tour at Sheep Creek on
Wednesday, October 2nd, from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
We’ll be visiting one of our riverscape restoration sites in the Cameron Peak Fire burn scar to learn about the challenges of post-fire restoration and see firsthand how low-tech, process-based restoration (LTPBR) structures are helping to rebuild stream and
floodplain health.
Schedule (approximate):
-
9:00 AM – Meet at Masonville Mercantile (carpooling into vans provided)
-
9:30 AM – Drive up Buckhorn Canyon with a stop along Buckhorn Creek
-
10:30 AM – Arrive at Sheep Creek; overview and discussion of restoration work
-
12:00 PM – Lunch (please bring your own)
-
12:30 PM – Hear from project partners about design and implementation
-
2:00 PM (approx.) – Depart Sheep Creek, return around
3:00 PM
What to bring:
-
Lunch & plenty of water
-
Sturdy shoes (hiking boots or rainboots recommended)
-
Sun protection & rain gear
-
Any personal comfort items for time in the field
Transportation: Vans will be available for carpooling. Due to rough road conditions and limited parking, we strongly encourage using the vans.
Terrain: Expect uneven ground and walking distances under 1.5 miles total.
We look forward to seeing you out in the field! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions before the tour.
Best,
Marin
