Mirasol: Looking at the Sun provides an intimate portrait of a rural farming community in Pueblo, Colorado as they fight to protect their water and land, and in turn, their culture and livelihood. A panel discussion will follow the film and feature voices from agricultural producers, policy influencers, and researchers focused on Northern Colorado's pressing water challenges. Panelists include:
  • Chris Goemans, Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State University
  • Todd Olander, a fifth-generation farmer and owner of Root Shoot Farming near Loveland; and
  • Robert Sakata, Colorado's first Agricultural Water Policy Advisor for the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
These events are intended to spark a community conversation among diverse groups of interests about the existing and future pressures on agriculture caused by urbanization, changing market forces, "buy & dry" and exportation of water outside of the region, and other factors. Elected officials, decision-makers, water professionals, agricultural producers, and members of the general public are welcome and encouraged to come together to learn about these important issues and create a conversation about how to maintain viable irrigated agriculture, a robust economy, and the unique character and sense of place that we enjoy in Northern Colorado.

These showings are thanks to Palmer Land Conservancy, in partnership with Northern Water, the Colorado Water Center, Larimer County, and Colorado Open Lands.
The film, produced by Palmer Land Conservancy, was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ben Knight.
