Dear Commissioner Shadduck-McNally,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in our community’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on January 19, 2026.

We are deeply grateful for the strong partnership between Colorado State University and Larimer County, and we welcome another opportunity to collaborate on this meaningful community-building event. While there is still much work to be done in advancing Dr. King’s legacy, gatherings like this allow us to unite in honoring his impact and recommit ourselves to the work that remains.

We hope you will be available to join us for a joint reading of the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Proclamation from 10 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. in the Lory Student Center Grand Ballroom. You would have several scripted sentences to deliver as part of a small group of community leaders who will read the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Proclamation. Following the brief program, a variety of engagement opportunities will be available should you wish to stay and participate.

Inclement weather has forced us to cancel the outdoor march the past two years, so we are excited to announce that in lieu of the march this year, the planning committee has planned an expanded indoor program with activities including the signature Day of Service, a community mural, children’s book readings, capoeira, music, and more. These offerings will continue until 12:45 p.m., after which we will reconvene in the Grand Ballroom to formally conclude the event by 1:00 p.m. Additionally, this year the committee has developed a virtual tour of civil rights history in Fort Collins, which will go live on January 5. Full event details can be found at mlkfortcollins.org.

Please confirm your participation by contacting Amber...@colostate.edu, co-chair of the planning committee (copied here). Amber will provide additional details about the event and your role. Thank you for considering involvement in this hallmark community event, which promises to be our most impactful yet.

Sincerely,

Amy Parsons
