CEO Letter

It's officially summertime in Colorado and BGCLC is in our third week of programming, serving over 1,000 local youth in 10 Club locations across Larimer County! I had the opportunity to see the Fort Collins Club buzzing with activity on Monday morning while touring Fort Collins mayoral candidate Shirley Peel around our games room, gymnasium, and discovery den. Teens were hanging out playing basketball, shooting pool, and socializing with friends while Colorado Youth Outdoors was setting up for a fly tying workshop to kick off Outdoor Recreation week. It was a great way to start the day and summer is a perfect time to tour our Clubs and see our mission in action!

Summer is our busiest time of year and we couldn't make this fun and magic happen without dozens of partners across the community. From our transportation partnership with Poudre School District that supports weekly field trips for our Summer of Discovery participants, to local businesses like Pedersen Toyota and Dohn Construction welcoming us onsite for tours and hands-on experiences with our kids. Colorado State University will once again host our Shark Week competition during Entrepreneurship Week where youth will learn how to develop a product and successfully take it to market and we'll be taking over Canvas Stadium for a day full of fun with CSU athletes from across campus. Our program will highlight creative careers through a partnership with the Fort Collins Museum of Art and other local artists who will highlight their personal mediums and inspiration. Summer of Discovery has something for everyone to ignite interest, curiosity, and passion for the world around them.

I would like to personally invite you to join me for a visit to one of our local Boys & Girls Clubs in your community to see what makes our program unique and special. I'll give you a hint - it's the staff. Our dedicated team works tirelessly over the summer to ensure a positive experience for every kid who walks through our doors and it shows. If you're looking for a way to kick off your day with a smile, I promise you'll find it in one of our Clubs.

Happy Summer Everyone!

Summer of Discovery ‘Plan Your Future’ Week

Plants Seed of Possibility

Summer of Discovery, our middle school and high school program that combines academic enrichment and career exploration, is in full swing!

During the Plan Your Future week, speakers presented to youth participants about the post-secondary journey. From college planning, to trades, to financial aid, youth learned about different options they could pursue after high school and the paths they could take to reach their goals.

Youth also participated in a career exploration activity aim at helping them find the career that fits not only their financial and academic goals, but their personalities as well. They learned about fields such as business, art, social service, and more. The goal of this programming is to inspire youth to begin thinking about and planning for their futures.

Participants heard from Dan Banuelos, Director at the CSU Access Center, who provides education and academic counseling to middle and high school students. Banuelos’ goal is to teach students that college is possible, especially for First-Generation and low-income students. According to Banuelos, it’s important to start planting these seeds now. He wants to make sure students know the right profession is out there, and that all professions have value.

“The more early intervention we can do, the better we can provide opportunities for these kids to let them know what’s out there.” -Dan Banuelos, CSU Access Center

Thank You Tellus for your Keystone Club Support

Thank you to everyone who joined us and our friends at Tellus Outdoor in support of our Loveland Pulliam Keystone Club. The event raised $2,000 to help send send youth leaders to the BGCA Keystone Conference in Chicago next month. We can't wait to share about their experiences later this summer and are so grateful for your investment in their learning!

A special thanks to Tellus Outdoor, a new Fort Collins-based brand making Earth-first outdoor gear and giving 100% of their net profits back to nature, for supporting both our youth and our planet. We love collaborating with businesses that invest in their community and we hope you will stop by and see them in person or online.

Missed the event? There's still time to support our Keystone Club and other leadership programming at BGCLC. Make your gift today!

The Loveland Youth Campus is Complete!

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of the Loveland Youth Campus! The Loveland Youth Campus serves youth ages 0-18 with comprehensive early childhood and youth development programming through a partnership with Teaching Tree Early Childhood Center and Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County.

Between the two organizations, we have over 250 youth registered and attending our programs at the campus this summer. These programs range from early literacy instruction to career exploration and everything in between, creating a comprehensive environment for youth of any age to learn, grow, and develop into the best versions of themselves. In addition, Children’s Speech & Reading Center, ChildSafe, El Sueño Latino, Heart and Sol, Loveland Youth Gardeners, Obesity Awareness in Action, and United Way of Larimer County are all now actively operating and serving families.

Our nonprofit partners at the Loveland Youth Campus are providing wrap-around services to support early education, mental health counseling, cultural connection and an overall place of belonging for youth and their families all under one roof. These programs are available to any family in the Loveland and surrounding Northern Colorado communities regardless of affiliation with Teaching Tree and/or BGCLC. As our partners continue to grow into the space, we anticipate our reach will also grow and at capacity, we will serve upwards of 400 youth daily during peak seasons. We will also serve as a regularly scheduled and one-time drop in location for other local nonprofit programs and community meetings.

The Loveland Youth Campus has already proven to be an incredible resource to the local community and the many families who rely on childcare in order to live, work, and thrive in Larimer County. This level of collaboration is the first of its kind in our community and we hope that it will spark more conversations about the opportunities we have to ensure that all youth in Larimer County succeed when we work together. Please join us on Friday, September 5th from 9:00 - 11:30 am to tour the campus and celebrate our shared success!
