Construction impacts for the week of

April 12, 2026

Mead to Berthoud

Weld County Road 32 Closures
Daily full closures of Weld County Road 32 under I-25 will continue Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for placement of erosion control material around the bridge. The road will be open to thru traffic at night and on weekends. All work is weather dependent.

  • Eastbound WCR 32 traffic will take Weld County Road 7 south to Colorado Highway 66, turn east to Weld County Road 13 (Colorado Boulevard) and turn north to WCR 32.
  • Westbound WCR 32 traffic will take WCR 13 (Colorado Boulevard) south to CO 66, turn west to WCR 7 and turn north to WCR 32.

Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the I-25 E. Frontage Road near Weld County Road 38 will be reduced to one alternating lane with flaggers for soil removal.

Colorado Speed Enforcement Program — Fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud are now active
CDOT is now issuing $75 fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud. Civil penalties are active as of April 2, following a 30-day grace period during which speeding drivers were given warning notices.

The Colorado Speed Enforcement Program targets excessive speed in vulnerable areas such as work and school zones, which is a frequent cause of traffic crashes and fatalities in Colorado.

For more information about the program, please visit
codot.gov/programs/speedenforcement.
Final Xcel equipment move postponed
Xcel Energy has one massive generator remaining to move from Loveland to Platteville. Originally planned for this weekend, April 11 and April 12, this final move has been postponed. Information will be provided once rescheduled.

While this is not a CDOT project and not part of the I-25 North Express Lanes project, we wanted to make sure you were aware that there will be delays on I-25 (as well as US Highway 287 and CO 66) once this final equipment move takes place.
I-25 E. Frontage Road Access Impacts:

The I-25 E. Frontage Road will be temporarily closed to thru traffic between WCR 32 and Colorado Highway 56 to prepare for the I-25 northbound lane widening and the frontage roadway transition. Crews have demolished the WCR 32 bridge and will reduce the asphalt roadway width on isolated sections of the frontage road. Viable detour routes and speed limit reductions will be posted. Please drive carefully through the work zones and reduced roadway sections. Motorists may use alternate north/south roadways such as WCR 9.5, WCR 7 and Colorado Boulevard.

CDOT changed I-25 E. Frontage Road thru access north of WCR 34, near Mead, in January. Closing frontage road access to WCR 34 is required for crews to extend the North Creek Box Culvert as part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project. This access change is part of CDOT’s continued coordination with the Town of Mead and Weld County, who are building a 2-mile portion of High Plains Boulevard between WCR 32 and WCR 36.

Once opened (projected summer 2026), traffic that previously used the frontage road will use High Plains Boulevard, and the frontage road use will transition to private property and utility access only. As shown on the map, local motorists will be able to access their properties between WCR 34 and WCR 36 but thru traffic will not be allowed. Similarly, local motorists will be able to access their properties between WCR 34 and WCR 32 but no thru traffic will be allowed.

Additional Closures:

Approximately one mile of the southbound I-25 Express Lane, between mile points 251 and 250, from approximately Weld County Road 44 to Weld County Road 46, is closed through late 2027.

Additional Information

For specific lane closures and traffic impacts from Sunday, April 12 - Saturday, April 18, please use this interactive map on the project webpage. To display full details on the traffic impacts, please click on any of the color-shaded areas on the map to see the full details. A pop-up on the left side of your screen will outline the details of the lane closures.

Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. Please watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting mainline I-25 and obey all posted signage in construction zones. Your safety and the safety of our crews is our highest priority.

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project provides a Courtesy Patrol during commute hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) to assist with disabled vehicles within the Project limits from Johnstown to Fort Collins.

About the Project

Communities along the I-25 North corridor are expanding rapidly, contributing to major economic growth in northern Colorado. The Colorado Department of Transportation is supporting this growth by delivering the expansion of I-25 North. Improvements are currently underway along I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins (with more to come from Mead to Berthoud).

This project brings economic, environmental and quality of life benefits for northern Coloradans by:

  •  Making safety improvements to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities.
  •  Decreasing travel time and increasing trip reliability.
  •  Reducing emissions and improving freight efficiency.
  •  Improve congestion and safety.
  •  Rebuilding aging and obsolete infrastructure.
  •  Improving bicycle, pedestrian and transit connectivity.
