"The Heart to Help," a sculpture by  Longmont artist A. Joseph Kinkel, was installed in front of the Estes Valley Fire Protection District's Dannels Fire Station in 2007 to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the local fire department. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District has undergone turmoil over the past three years, with the resignation of three chiefs since 2023. The newly elected Board has expressed its confidence in the District’s firefighters, "the District is equipped to weather these personnel changes," and says the "changes will enable the District to have a stronger, better, and more harmonious, workforce."

Members of the Team Rubicon volunteered for a three day deployment in Estes last week to clear trees around the Town’s communication towers on Prospect Mountain. The greyshirts, as they call themselves, are expertly trained sawyers employing chainsaws to do debris removal and route clearance after natural disasters and to clear forests for a fire mitigation operation.
