Hello John ,

I hope this email find your well!

I am reaching out as I have sent numerous emails regarding the heavy traffic and long wait times on our east frontage road at I-25 to CDOTS complaint email. Some waits are recorded at 25-30 minutes. I understand funding is limited for a complete overhaul, but maybe a turn arrow would be of huge benefit on east side to head west.

I am still hoping for a pedestrian bridge conversation as we now have many daily runners across the interstate (mostly teens and young adults working on west side of town). My fear is this will increase as school starts and middle schoolers are headed to school in am or from school in the pm.

I did send the grant information I had read about "Connecting Communities" I am hoping we hear some additional information back from the town related to this topic. Sargent Cherry is aware of the runners and has received multiple photos.

John,

The issue is not with the intersection that has turn signals. The issue is the intersection on the east side of the overpass northbound traffic can line up a quarter mile waiting to turn left into town or across town. The problem is southbound traffic from the northside frontage road balls up at that intersection as they wait for a green light the northbound traffic cannot execute a left-hand turn into town, which is what 90% of the traffic is doing until the southbound traffic is cleared. This typically only allows a couple of cars to get through the intersection north and west bound per cycle in the mornings when people are going to work or at the end of the day when they’re coming home especially during school season that intersection can trap people for up to half an hour. CDOT did not install a turning light in the center section where it is badly needed to clear the northbound and westbound traffic. A separate issue that also leads to highly increased wait times is traffic diversions to frontage roads from accidents that occur north of Wellington exit.

I understand CDOT has cameras installed at some intersections off Wellington and I-25. I am curious if they have captured the ongoing issues with backups.

Kindly,

Hello Shirrell,

Thank you for reaching out, and I will follow up accordingly with our staff regarding your concerns. Can you help me understand the east frontage road wait times situation? I recall there were serious issues with the Wellington I-25 exit and CDOT was able to get the turn signals installed and synchronized.

Hello Shirrell,

I have forwarded your concerns to Lesli Ellis and asked her to follow up with our engineering team to see what we can do to have CDOT folks be more responsive to your inquiries. Hope you and family are doing well these days.
