Dear Mr Kefalas,

The thriving community of Laporte would benefit greatly from a community center and, coincidentally, an opportunity has emerged. With the new Laporte fire station completed, the old Poudre Fire Station is now for sale. Its location would be perfect for a community center for Laporte. It would be wonderful if Larimer County considered a purchase of this building to serve its northern constituents. Would you be willing to put a word in for us? Thank you!

Hi John,

My apologies for the late reply. Thank you for your note. I will try to make the May 10 community meeting at Me Oh My. I do not know if anyone has contacted PFA but will investigate.

Have a good family trip and will hopefully see you on the 10th!

Terri

Dear Terri,

Thank you for reaching out to me regarding the Laporte community's interest in the potential opportunity for a community center at the PFA Station #7, which is up for sale. At this moment, I've heard from about a half dozen of your neighbors, including one who came to our administrative matters meeting this morning and provided public comment on this issue. As a result of your email and others that I've received, as well as the in-person public comment this morning, I've spoken with our county manager to exchange ideas on how the county can support this effort and provide some guidance. I also left a message for one of the PFA Board members. Has anyone from the community contacted PFA to express the community's interest? Our county manager and I discussed some ideas that I would like to share with folks when I next come to Laporte on 5/10 for our next community conversation at Me Oh My, and I will follow up with PFA. The property is listed for sale at $1.15M, and I will reach out to the realtor, who is a friend and colleague, to get his take on this matter. Please note that the county does not have the funds to buy this property, and this is not something that we typically do. Nevertheless, we want to share our ideas and support this effort as best as we can. I will also send this response to the other folks who have emailed me, but I am leaving town tomorrow morning for a family trip and will not be back in the office till 5/5. I'll have my computer and phone. Let me know what you think and whether anyone has contacted PFA.
