Hi All,

The start of the special session is just hours away!  The special session will begin at 9 am. We believe that they break for committees around 10ish, but of course, we will need to stay flexible.

The bill will be introduced in the House, with Rep. Willford and Young. Once the EITC expansion bill is introduced we will send an update on this listserv. We expect it to be assigned to the Finance Committee. Follow along here.

Thanks everyone for your quick sign-on to this effort. We know that any expansion to the EITC will put money back in the hands of workers and families. In this historic budget surplus year, you have the opportunity to do something to benefit those working families who struggle the most through an expanded EITC.

We ask you all to continue to reach out to leadership, urging them to prioritize the EITC and join us on social media to help get this message out. CFI put together a few graphics and posts. Of course, add in your own messaging, or just share/re-post and help uplift from CFI’s socials on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Here is the factsheet that will have the most up to date information on the policy: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VJB7Gn5ZyTceVaPysArpCziDlAaLmZmYNKFTH0KLyBw/edit

Thank you all again for your help and support, and let's get this done!
Caroline

Hi everyone!

As some of you may know, our EITC bill (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb23b-1002) passed out of committee this morning. Woohoo! Thank you so much to everyone who emailed, testified, and otherwise provided support. We are over the first hurdle.

Our bill was amended in committee by the sponsors. Originally, the bill was introduced with a 75% federal match, which would have been a 50% increase of the state EITC for this year. As amended, the bill will increase the state EITC to 50% of the federal credit, which is a 25% increase for this tax year. The updated factsheet can be found here.

While we hoped this expansion might be bigger, this is still a significant expansion and will make a meaningful difference.

As always, please continue to voice your support to legislators directly, or through social media. CFI put together a few graphics and posts. We will continue to post socials on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook, so be on the lookout if you want to uplift CFI's posts.

Thanks everyone, and we will have more updates as the weekend goes on.

Best,
Caroline

Hi HCFGA Coalition!

We have some more exciting updates for you. The EITC expansion bill (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb23b-1002) passed out of the Senate Finance committee earlier this evening. We are moving to Senate Appropriations, and then the floor for Second Readings, hopefully this evening.

We will continue to keep everyone posted, but we want to celebrate this momentum and say a HUGE thank you to all of the supporters and testifiers on this important bill. Your work and stories are an essential part of this process, and this legislation would not be moving forward without you.

All the best,
Caroline

Hi everyone!

The Senate just passed the EITC expansion bill, and it's on its way to the Governor's desk. WE JUST DOUBLED THE STATE EITC FOR THIS YEAR! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you SO much to all of you. Your hard work and dedication to this program year after year is why this bill passed.

Hope you all are able to get some rest and have a good holiday,

-CFI Team
