CASA volunteers are equipped with continuous training and support, as they serve the children they are appointed to, which allows them to navigate advocacy across multiple dimensions. They work directly with each child and with each adult in the child's life, making sure that the child's best interests are prioritized and their needs met.
CASA Karen has been appointed to a case with two siblings for almost two years. She visits the children weekly, helping with transportation to their appointments and karate classes. The children’s family are gradually re-engaging in the case after a period of some distance, and are now visiting both siblings regularly. The children are struggling with their feelings on family visits, and expressing tough behaviors after these visits end.
Karen is focused on permanency for both children. She has reached out to the foster caregiver to offer her support, and works together with all caregivers to support the children through this challenge.
Through informed advocacy, CASAs like Karen can ensure that children have their best interests represented while their cases are open, and have safe, permanent homes once those cases have closed.
