This content is and always will be free. It’s been a while since I’ve had the time to write a more, “blog style” post, and I apologize… I can’t truly start today. Another 10+ hour day has come and gone, and although I’m sad I don’t have the time or energy to put into the newsletter to the extend I’d like, it means that I’ve been more than busy enough in the fields… growing the food that you all are actually here for. For now, I’ll give you some brief updates of what’s happening at Well Fed, just so you’re in the loop. -Well Fed has welcomed three new crew members this spring: Kim, Kayla, and Rebecca. If you meet them at the market or here at the stand, give them a warm welcome. We’re super excited to have them as part of the team/farmily. -We’ve already moved through most of our spring crops and are onto Summer! I hope you enjoy the few short weeks we’ll have with our cool season greens like Spicy Mix, Arugula, Spinach, and Bok Choi. We have to make space on the farm for our summer favorites like Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Summer Squash, Eggplant, and Peppers. Many of our greenhouses have already been flipped into hot houses, and just yesterday we saw our first ripe cherry tomato! -Our garlic, onions, and cabbage at our satellite location are looking great, and our newest site addition is coming in beautifully with cover crops, carrots, beets, and radishes. -Just today, I was able to fix our 1940s compost spreader to get it back up and running. We used it to amend some field space for okra and eggplant, hopefully going in next week after our next cold snap (Damn! Colorado is fiesty this spring!). -Our Plant Sale and Potluck went off without a hitch, and despite a 12+hour day for me and my crew, the community came out! We all had fun, ate way too much, and took home lots of gorgeous plants. We have tons more out front on our new farm stand benches! And that brings me to the three most important details about this newsletter. 1. Larimer County Farmers Market Begins Tomorrow, 5/16, 9am-1pm.Come out and support the farm at Fort Collins’ best market. The folks at LCFM have got an amazing spread of vendors this year, and we are bringing our finest for the first market of the year. Come choose from over 45 varieties of plant starts including veggies, flowers, herbs, perennials, and more. But don’t forget the food! We have tons of greens, and roots, and brand new items harvested for the first time of the season like rhubarb, and beets. Say hi and be extra nice to Drew and Kayla and our volunteer crew! The first market is always a doozy. And for those CSA folks who couldn’t make it to the plant sale and potluck, come grab your CSA card and start using your perks! 2. Farm Stand Summer Hours Are In Effect.Every day. 9am-6pm. Self-serve. Greens, Roots, Micros, Herbs, Plants, Bread, Eggs, Honey, Syrup, Salsa, Ferments, Flours…. We’ve got so much already! More details in the next section. 3. CSA Is Closed… BUT WAIT!Although the Summer CSA has officially closed, we have a new way opportunity for you all to stay engaged and seasonal with your local food. Monthly Veggie Subscriptions! It’s just like the full-season traditional box or bag model CSA, where the farmer curates a bag of goodies from what’s being harvested, except you only need to commit for one month (4 weeks). Each bag is worth $30, but because you’re signing up for a whole month, you’ll get a 10% discount. You can start as soon as June! More info here.
