Construction impacts for the week of

Sept. 21, 2025

Mead to Berthoud

The speed limit on the project has been lowered to 65 mph. Please obey speed limit signs.

Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Weld County Road 32 under I-25 will be temporarily closed to allow crews to work on bridge overhangs.

  • Westbound WCR 32 traffic will take the East I-25 Frontage Road south to Mulligan Street, turn east to County Road 9.5, turn south to Colorado Highway 66, turn west to Weld County Road 7, and turn north to WCR 32.
  • Eastbound WCR 32 traffic will take WCR 7 south to CO 66, turn east to WCR 9.5, and turn north to WCR 32.
Thursday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., there will be a southbound I-25 off-ramp closure at WCR 34 to allow crews to move equipment.
  • Traffic intending to exit I-25 at WCR 34 will continue south to Colorado Highway 66, turn around and travel north to WCR 34.

There is an ongoing temporary closure of the intersection of Weld County Road 38 and the I-25 E. Frontage Road through mid-October as part of the WCR 38 bridge reconstruction over I-25.

  • Westbound WCR 38 traffic will drive east to Colorado Boulevard, turn south and either turn west onto WCR 34 to access local destinations or turn west onto CO 66 to enter I-25.
  • Northbound I-25 E. Frontage Road traffic will be diverted south and turn onto WCR 34 to access local destinations or enter I-25.
  • No southbound vehicles will have access to the I-25 E. Frontage Road between WCR 38 and Weld County Road 40 and should use Colorado Highway 56, Colorado Boulevard, and WCR 34 for local access.

Weld County Road 38 over I-25

WCR 38 over I-25, east of Mead, is closed through December 2025 to allow crews to reconstruct the bridge over the highway.

  • Eastbound WCR 38 traffic will take Weld County Road 7 south to Weld County Road 34, turn east to Colorado Boulevard and turn north to WCR 38.
  • Westbound WCR 38 traffic will drive east to Colorado Boulevard, turn south to WCR 34, turn west to WCR 7, and turn north to WCR 38.

More information on the Weld County Road 38 bridge demolition and reconstruction:

  • The current Weld County Road 38 bridge was built in 1960, and a larger bridge is needed to span the widened I-25 section. The new bridge will have an 8-foot-wide sidewalk for multimodal connections over I-25. The new bridge will also be built “on alignment,” or in the same position as the current bridge, which was decided in coordination with the Town of Mead. Usually, CDOT replaces a bridge directly adjacent to the old bridge, to allow the old bridge to be used during construction of the new bridge. The demolition of the current bridge and the complete construction and roadway tie-in of the new bridge will be completed while the WCR 38 east/west connection over the interstate is closed from June to December 2025.
  • CDOT is aware this six-month bridge outage is a significant inconvenience for daily users. Ultimately, this decision will invest money in permanent infrastructure in another area of the project and save Colorado taxpayer money. CDOT will prioritize keeping the Weld County Road 34 and I-25 interchange open during the WCR 38 bridge closure to help facilitate east/west movement across the interstate.

Additional Closures:

A temporary closure of Valley Road is ongoing to allow crews to reconstruct the bridge over the road. This closure will be in place through summer 2025. Motorists should plan accordingly, as no detour route is available.

Southbound I-25 traffic shifted to the northbound lanes between Colorado Highway 56 and Colorado Highway 66 into a head-to-head configuration and will be in place through 2025.

Approximately one mile of the southbound I-25 Express Lane, between mile points 251 and 250, from approximately Weld County Road 44 to Weld County Road 46, is closed through late 2027.

Additional Information

For specific lane closures and traffic impacts from Sunday, Sept. 21 - Saturday, Sept. 27, please use this interactive map on the project webpage. To display full details on the traffic impacts, please click on any of the color-shaded areas on the map to see the full details. A pop-up on the left side of your screen will outline the details of the lane closures.

Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. Please watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting mainline I-25 and obey all posted signage in construction zones. Your safety and the safety of our crews is our highest priority.

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project provides a Courtesy Patrol during commute hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) to assist with disabled vehicles within the Project limits from Johnstown to Fort Collins.

About the Project

Communities along the I-25 North corridor are expanding rapidly, contributing to major economic growth in northern Colorado. The Colorado Department of Transportation is supporting this growth by delivering the expansion of I-25 North. Improvements are currently underway along I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins (with more to come from Mead to Berthoud).

This project brings economic, environmental and quality of life benefits for northern Coloradans by:

  •  Making safety improvements to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities.
  •  Decreasing travel time and increasing trip reliability.
  •  Reducing emissions and improving freight efficiency.
  •  Improve congestion and safety.
  •  Rebuilding aging and obsolete infrastructure.
  •  Improving bicycle, pedestrian and transit connectivity.
