Dear Healing Warriors Program Community,
We just completed a strategic planning session with our staff and board of directors, and I find myself filled with gratitude and excitement for the road ahead. This plan is more than a document—it’s a renewed commitment to our mission, our community, and the veterans we serve. With clear goals and a bold vision, we’re ready to take the next steps forward—together.
One of those steps is just around the corner: our upcoming 5K Fun Run on Sunday, 6/22, at Spring Canyon Park in Fort Collins! This event is a celebration of community, wellness, and support for our programs. Whether you’re running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, we can’t wait to see you there. It’s going to be a fantastic day of connection and purpose.
On a personal note, I recently had the honor of completing the Leadership Veteran Program -Cohort 25. This experience was deeply enriching, and on Friday, June 6, our cohort came together to honor the legacy of SGT Hector Flores, a WWII veteran whose courage and service continue to inspire. A plaque on the bench at a Denver Park named after him details Flores’ service in the Army in World War II, and how he received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Hearts while fighting in Italy. In October 1944, Flores ran up a hill, took out enemy machine gun operators and captured five German soldiers, and Army field reports show, he did it all with few casualties to his men. Check out the full story here.
To all of our supporters, donors, and veterans, thank you. Your belief in our mission fuels everything we do. Your generosity, time, and encouragement make our work possible.
We’re looking forward to seeing many of you at the Fort Collins 4th of July Parade! It’s always a highlight of the summer and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our nation and those who’ve served it.
