Berthoud helped fund the purchase of this property. From my recollection there was only discussion of the preservation of the ag land and the water rights. I do not remember any mention of this being a temporary purchase for a future sale. This
was the first water ATM project in the state.
In my opinion, this is huge mistake by the County and a real slap in the face to Berthoud. Larimer County has spent millions of dollars to preserve buffers between Loveland and Berthoud. The Little Thompson Farm property is a buffer between
Berthoud and Boulder County and a important view shed at the southern gateway to town. Selling it is just another example of how little County leaders care about our area.
I would urge the Town to see if it can get the County to keep the property and find another farmer to lease the property which is how Boulder County manages the productive ag lands it owns. It that is not possible, then the Town should seek partners
to buy the property at a discount to fulfill the original preservation goals that Berthoud funded.
