Livermore Character Plan Meeting

Thank you for making the time to coordinate the public meeting last night in Livermore. You held your ground to maintain focus, but the crowd really wasn't going to give the meeting a chance to be productive. We left early when it became obvious the mob would rule.

We don't yet have an opinion on the Plan, but hope to learn more over time and comment on same.

One idea from last night....Might be worthwhile for you to schedule a couple open sessions for people to vent and make comments on all the other issues they are thinking about. Maybe twice a year or quarterly?

Seemed like the topic at hand last night never really surfaced due to all the other agendas and issues being raised.

Thanks again Commissioner. Don't give up on us yet!

You are most welcome Michael, and it was nice meeting you. I appreciate your suggestion and open-mindedness, and we will follow up accordingly. We need to have more community conversations to build trust and address the issues before us.

Good Morning,
We do appreciate your efforts with scheduling the regular community meetings for us in the Livermore/Red Feather areas Commissioner. Look forward to the upcoming meeting on the 29th.

Based on the poor performance by many of our neighbors at the initial "Land Use" session several months ago, and considering the topics for this upcoming session, I'm hopeful the crowd will be respectful.... But not optimistic.

I have a modest suggestion for your team presenting on the 29th. With my work, we are often presenting new projects to communities and the public at similar public venues. Some are required for our permitting regiments, and some are simply to keep the communities updated with our project's progress. Increasingly, we are seeing rowdy disrespectful crowds that many time disrupt the entire venue.

A trend with many of our public venues has evolved to asking attendees to submit questions in writing, at the venue, and the presenters read the questions and respond. This dynamic has made a huge impact in calming the rhetoric down and allowing for a more productive meeting.

Might be an approach to consider as you organize your next meeting here in Livermore?

Thanks again.

We will come prepared with index cards if there is a large group assembled - to help facilitate the conversation. Otherwise, we are good with an open dialogue.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your constructive suggestion and for your kind words. I will discuss this with my colleagues to see if they think we need to receive questions in writing, although I am feeling that we do not need to do this. The past two Livermore Community Conversations since the February meeting have been mostly civil, but I can change my mind based on our staff discussion.Hope you and yours are well.
