June 2023

From the President/CEO

Today is the official first day of summer and the longest day of the year. For Easterseals Colorado, summer has been in full swing for a little while now. Rocky Mountain Village has had a couple of weeks of campers who are as excited to be at camp as we are to have them there. Yay! Camp got underway on Monday, June 12th and our year-round programs are enjoying outings and time outside. As adults we do not always have the same excitement for summer as we did as a kid. However, there is nothing that says we adults cannot enjoy the smell of fresh cut grass (even if we had to cut it), listen for the ice cream truck, marvel at rainbows, or have fun watching an outdoor movie in a park. Summer is the time to slow down and enjoy. And when you are doing those outdoor activities, do not forget the water and the sunscreen.

There are always many summer events and activities, so I wanted to highlight a couple of ESC activities that are coming up in the warm summer months to get them on your radar. At Rocky Mountain Village there is the 4th Annual Archery Challenge on Friday, August 4th. The 20th Annual Classic Clay Shoot is happening on Friday, August 18. It has been so exciting to see the growth of the Clay Shoot year over year and I would like to invite any of you who are interested to check out the 20th anniversary of this fun event. As always, you can see all the upcoming events in this newsletter.

You’ll never find a rainbow if you are looking down.

Things To Know

Easterseals Colorado's Rocky Mountain Village Camp Sports a New Mural

Artist Jennifer Bean Taylor visited Rocky Mountain Village (RMV) Camp last month to paint an incredible new mural in the camp's dining hall. The mural features a stunning scene of mountains, a lake, and forest in shades of blue, purple, beige, and pink. The Rocky Mountain Village logo is incorporated, making this a piece just as unique and special as RMV itself. Thank you Jennifer! Follow her on Instagram @art.by.jenniferbeantaylor.

We Need Your Help to Make Camp Accessible to as Many Campers as Possible!

Fresh mountain air. Swim races. Fast-formed friendships. Leisurely afternoons fishing in the pond. Smores over the campfire.

At Rocky Mountain Village  (RMV) Camp, we provide enriched, memorable, and life-changing recreational camping services for children six years and older, adolescents, and adults who live with a wide spectrum of disabilities, both cognitive and physical. Watch why we love RMV here!
Since 1951, our fully accessible camp in Empire, Colorado, has provided a safe, barrier-free environment for its campers to experience all aspects of camp without limitations.
Help make camp accessible to as many campers as possible.

David Weekley Homes Supports Housing Project at Rocky Mountain Village Camp
David Weekley Homes - Denver recently presented Easterseals Colorado's Rocky Mountain Village (RMV) Camp a donation of $10,000 toward the camp's A-Frame Staff Lodging Project! Thanks to the support of businesses like David Weekley, we are able to continue serving and supporting our local communities and providing an incredible summer camp experience for children and adults with disabilities.
In addition, a group of volunteers from David Weekley arrived at RMV to spend the day helping around the grounds! They gave some cabins and the camp laundry room a fresh paint job, pulled and pruned vegetation from around the horse arena and fishing pond, and fixed hardware and machinery in multiple buildings. The volunteers have been instrumental in ensuring that RMV is ready for a summer full of fun for everyone. THANK YOU David Weekley Homes!
