Good morning John-
I have been a supporter of yours  for many years as has my father Gordon Hadlow. He significantly supported your campaign as did I due to your hard work in always looking out for those with less privilege and making sure those with power do not abuse it. I do not know what happened to cause this situation with Laurie Stolen, but I do know how people can be punished for speaking their truth and speaking up against injustice. I have worked with Laurie in the past in my role at the Sheriff's office Victim Services Coordinator and have always been inspired by her work. I would not be the person I am today without her as a role model.  I was absolutely shocked to see you walk away from the conversation with Mary Beth and in my opinion down play the work that Laurie has done. Yes it was a team effort, but she put more into this than anyone. I was so disappointed when the first funding initiative  fell through. Laurie just picked right up and got started on what needed to happen.

I really feel that a formal statement needs to be made by county officials  acknowledging all the hard work and giving her the credit that she deserves. I would love to discuss this further.

Good morning John-
Yes it's unfortunate this was our first meeting since I have been supporter of your work for some time and under those circumstances. I hear your feedback that you felt it wasn't the right place. I don't have any control over how the encounter left you feeling, but I suspect it's because you know that there is more than being discussed that happened in the situation with Laurie Stolen. Having worked for the county for some time, I would really appreciate the opportunity to sit down with you and share some of the experiences of myself and other women have experienced of systemic oppression and sexual harassment working as a county employee.  I have known Laurie stolen for a long time and she has always advocated for what was right even up against powerful men who often have dismissed her. I do believe that Laurie called out an injustice in spending issues against a powerful man and this is why she is no longer the behavioral health director.

I would like a moment of your time to just share my experiences and what I have seen. I do know that this continues to be a pervasive problem for female county employees. While most of these examples occured at the Sheriff's Office under Justin Smith (he was a major at that time) I feel this is a time in history where people are listening for the first time and taking women's experiences of injustice seriously. I would  like the opportunity to sit down with you with Mary Beth. I appreciate that offer of your very busy schedule. There is a reason I have dedicated my life to working with victims of crime, and injustice, specifically around sexual assault and continued on in therapy working to support those who have PTSD and anxiety.

Thank you Erin, and I don't think I walked away from our conversation. My intention was not to diminish what you and Mary Beth confronted me with - her doing most of the talking and insinuating, while you just looked at me. Frankly, our encounter was harsh, and I determined there was nothing I could say or do in that moment that would address your concerns and ill-feelings. As for feelings, after connecting with you and Mary Beth (need to respond to her email as well), I went 180 degrees from a feeling of celebration and gratitude for all the hard work, including Laurie's, to a place of sadness and distress. I am always more than willing to talk in person about this matter, but I will not continue this discourse via email. Please give my best to Gordon, and have a good weekend.
