Mead to Berthoud
The speed limit on the project has been lowered to 65 mph. Please obey speed limit signs.
Monday, 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., there will be a southbound I-25 off-ramp closure at Weld County Road 34 to allow crews to move paving equipment.
- Traffic exiting I-25 at WCR 34 will continue south to exit at Colorado Highway 66, then loop around onto northbound I-25 and back to WCR 34.
|
|
Monday, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., there will be a southbound I-25 left lane closure near Weld County Road 32 for barrier maintenance.
Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 7 a.m. to noon, there will be intermittent brief stops controlled by flaggers on WCR 34 west of I-25 to allow trucks to enter the road.
Wednesday and Thursday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., northbound I-25 under Weld County Road 38 will be temporarily closed overnight to allow crews to place new bridge deck panels over the roadway.
- Northbound I-25 traffic will be rerouted using temporary detour off- and on-ramps merging with the I-25 E. Frontage Road. No turning movements will be allowed on or off WCR 38 during this time.
- I-25 E. Frontage Road north and south of WCR 38 will be closed. North- and southbound Frontage Road traffic will travel east to Colorado Boulevard to access I-25, WCR 34, Weld County Road 36 and WCR 32.

|
Wednesday and Thursday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., there will be alternating southbound I-25 lane closures under WCR 38 to allow crews to place new bridge deck panels over the roadway.
Project operations will cease at noon on Friday through Monday, Sept. 1 in recognition of the Labor Day Holiday and weekend.
Weld County Road 38 over I-25
WCR 38 over I-25, east of Mead, is closed through December 2025 to allow crews to reconstruct the bridge over the highway. Detours will be in place:
- Eastbound WCR 38 traffic will take Weld County Road 7 south to Weld County Road 34, turn east to the I-25 E. Frontage Road and turn north to WCR 38.
- Westbound WCR 38 traffic will take the I-25 E. Frontage Road south to WCR 34, turn west to WCR 7, and turn north to WCR 38.
More information on the Weld County Road 38 bridge demolition and reconstruction:
- The current Weld County Road 38 bridge was built in 1960, and a larger bridge is needed to span the widened I-25 section. The new bridge will have an 8-foot-wide sidewalk for multimodal connections over I-25. The new bridge will also be built “on alignment,” or in the same position as the current bridge, which was decided in coordination with the Town of Mead. Usually, CDOT replaces a bridge directly adjacent to the old bridge, to allow the old bridge to be used during construction of the new bridge. The demolition of the current bridge and the complete construction and roadway tie-in of the new bridge will be completed while the WCR 38 east/west connection over the interstate is closed from June to December 2025.
- CDOT is aware this six-month bridge outage is a significant inconvenience for daily users. Ultimately, this decision will invest money in permanent infrastructure in another area of the project and save Colorado taxpayer money. CDOT will prioritize keeping the Weld County Road 34 and I-25 interchange open during the WCR 38 bridge closure to help facilitate east/west movement across the interstate.

Additional Closures
A temporary closure of Valley Road is ongoing to allow crews to reconstruct the bridge over the road. This closure will be in place through Summer 2025. Motorists should plan accordingly, as no detour route is available.
Southbound I-25 traffic shifted to the northbound lanes between Colorado Highway 56 and Colorado Highway 66 into a head-to-head configuration and will be in place through 2025.
Approximately one mile of the southbound I-25 Express Lane, between mile points 251 and 250, from approximately Weld County Road 44 to Weld County Road 46, is closed through late 2027.

Additional Information
For specific lane closures and traffic impacts from Sunday, Aug. 24 - Saturday, Aug. 30, please use this interactive map on the project webpage. To display full details on the traffic impacts, please click on any of the color-shaded areas on the map to see the full details. A pop-up on the left side of your screen will outline the details of the lane closures.
Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. Please watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting mainline I-25 and obey all posted signage in construction zones. Your safety and the safety of our crews is our highest priority.
The I-25 North Express Lanes Project provides a Courtesy Patrol during commute hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) to assist with disabled vehicles within the Project limits from Johnstown to Fort Collins.

About the Project
Communities along the I-25 North corridor are expanding rapidly, contributing to major economic growth in northern Colorado. The Colorado Department of Transportation is supporting this growth by delivering the expansion of I-25 North. Improvements are currently underway along I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins (with more to come from Mead to Berthoud).
This project brings economic, environmental and quality of life benefits for northern Coloradans by:
- Making safety improvements to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities.
- Decreasing travel time and increasing trip reliability.
- Reducing emissions and improving freight efficiency.
- Improve congestion and safety.
- Rebuilding aging and obsolete infrastructure.
- Improving bicycle, pedestrian and transit connectivity.
