Kelly LyellPoudre School District’s new Board of Education met for the first time Dec. 2 and elected officers for the next two years.
The school board’s newest members — Karla Baise, Coronda Ziegler and Andrew Spain — were formally sworn in separately Dec. 1 to ensure compliance with a state law requiring that process to take place within 10 days of the Larimer County Clerk’s office certifying results of the Nov. 4 election. The county certified its election results Nov. 21, confirming the victories of Baise over challenger Sabrina Herrick in the District C race, Ziegler over challenger Tom Griggs in the District D race and Spain running unopposed in District E.
The first act of the new Board of Education was selecting a president, a role previous Vice President Jessica Zamora was selected to fill by unanimous vote. She replaces Kristen Draper, who was term-limited and ineligible to run for reelection.
Zamora was first appointed to the school board in August 2021 to fill a vacancy for the District G seat that was created when a board member moved out of the area. Zamora was then elected to the position two months later and reelected in November 2024 to a second four-year term.
The new school board then proceeded to elect Kevin Havelda as its new vice president and retain three existing officers to positions that do not require membership on the seven-member Board of Education, all by unanimous vote. Dave Montoya, PSD’s chief financial officer, was retained as the school board’s treasurer, Jill Brunner was retained as secretary and Allison Brinkhoff as assistant secretary.
The meeting, with several former school board members in attendance, lasted 20 minutes and was followed by a reception for outgoing board members Jim Brokish and Draper.
