Harmony House Addition Update

We are thrilled to share our progress on the Harmony House Addition Project this month!

Since our last update in May, the exterior walls have been finished, windows have been installed, and drywalling is complete. The building team has been painting, tiling, and installing electricity in the new space. The project should be completed by August 2024.

We are excited to welcome our community to see the addition once construction is complete. Stay tuned for information on a community event in our new space later this year!

The Harmony House Addition Project was funded by a matching grant from the Noel B. Shuler Foundation and the generosity of our community. Thank you to our construction partners, COLLAB Architecture and Swift Builders, for making this amazing addition possible!

Monthly Mission Moment

The CASA Volunteer role is a uniquely impactful opportunity where you can make a real difference for children in Larimer County who've experienced abuse and neglect.

Check out some recent testimonials from our CASA Volunteers on their experiences!

"Serving a child in need in my community has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have lived through. Connecting with my child, showing up for him, and advocating for him in every sphere of his life has been a privilege and a beautiful opportunity to make a difference in his life. CASA is a phenomenal program that seeks to bring about change in our communities and I am honored to be a part of CASA and my child’s life."

"This is my first CASA placement, and we are only a few months into getting to know each other. It's been an honor to get to know my kiddo, to put myself in their shoes, to creatively think about what games we'll play and where I can offer to take them to eat their favorite foods. My kiddo has special needs, and I try hard to encourage and support them through play. What a delight to dig out my art supplies! I feel softened all over from my time with my CASA kiddo and their kinship placement and situation. I have a new appreciation for school, community, and friendship!"

There are currently more than 50 children on the waitlist for a CASA in our district. Want to make a difference for a child in need? Get involved today!

New Growth at Harmony House

Last month, our partners at the Dobos Lab at CSU and Mountain Valley Bank visited Harmony House for a one-day volunteer project.

The team planted 25 beautiful trees for us along our north-facing fence and refreshed our flower pots for the season. As the trees grow, they'll provide more natural privacy for families using our services at the house.

Thank you to the Dobos lab and Mountain Valley Bank for volunteering your time and helping us improve Harmony House!

Volunteer Spotlight

Hannah Knecht

July Volunteer of the Month

Nominated by Joe Clifton, CASA Case Supervisor

Please join us in congratulating our July volunteer of the month, Hannah Knecht!

Statement from Joe on why he nominated Hannah: Hannah is an excellent CASA who has been volunteering for our organization for nearly two years. She is currently advocating for three young children on her second case as a CASA. Hannah provides a voice for these children by advocating to ensure their needs are being met. She has been instrumental in gathering and reporting information on a difficult and complicated case. We are very fortunate to have people like her supporting families in our community.

Q&A with Hannah

How, when and why did you choose CASA?

I began my CASA training in April 2022 and took my first case early that summer. I chose CASA after I looked into programs that serve those who have endured trauma, and decided a program that serves children in that capacity is a good fit for me.

What has your experience has been like as a volunteer?

This volunteer position has honestly been challenging! However, I am up for it and remain dedicated to the children in my case, no matter the outcome. It has been helpful for me to remember my role as a CASA, and not get too caught up in all of the issues surrounding the case. That allows me to truly fulfill my position and the mission of advocating for the best interest of the child. I have seen positive changes in a few instances, and those small victories that benefit the child, remind me of the cause.

What is one moment that has stood out to you as a volunteer?

A moment that recently stood out to me was when I took my CASA children to the park. I was observing them running around the park, going up and down the slide over and over, excited and laughing, and for a time, carefree. It reminds me that, regardless of what some children endure, deep inside is a natural joy and innocence that children need and want to express.
