Patrick McFall’s slim lead over Troy Daniels fell to about 1.25% Thursday, but not yet close enough to trigger an automatic recount, according to Larimer County Clerk Tina Harris

Just 184 votes now separate Patrick McFall and Troy Daniels in Loveland’s mayoral race, as Larimer County election officials completed processing ballots ahead of the state’s eight-day cure period.

As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, McFall had received 14,775 votes to Daniels’ 14,591, out of 29,266 ballots cast, a margin of about 1.25%. That puts the race outside the range that would trigger an automatic recount under Colorado law, according to Larimer County Clerk Tina Harris.

“The statute requires a recount if the difference between the highest number of votes cast and the next highest number is less than or equal to one-half of one percent of the leading candidate’s total,” Harris said.

Results released on election night showed McFall ahead of Daniels by more than 400 votes. As of Wednesday night’s results release, that gap had shrunk to 212 votes.

Harris said Thursday’s results will be the final update until after the eight-day cure process ends Nov. 14. That period allows voters to fix signature issues or verify identification to ensure their ballots are counted.

After the cure period concludes, counties will certify their results and determine whether any races fall within recount range.

Even if the margin were to narrow, Harris said any recount — whether automatic or requested by a candidate — would not take place until after the cure period and canvass are complete.

“Once we post today’s results, my team will review the numbers and notify me if any contests appear close enough to qualify for a mandatory recount,” she said. “But it will be a little while before we even know that.”
