Hi Commissioner Kefalas,

I hope your summer is going well and it was nice to see you before the Proclamations. I am helping form the Climate Equity Committee through the City of Fort Collins, and I would appreciate you sharing this out to anyone who lives in Fort Collins who you think would be an excellent fit to serve as a liaison to historically marginalized communities here (compensated at $25/hr). Also, please review the emails below and the link for more information. I would also love to hear your insights on this committee being formed.

More information and the application are available here.

Best,
Caesar

Subject: 2023 Climate Equity Committee

Hello all!

As promised, we are excited to share the new Climate Equity Committee, which is an evolution of the previous Community Advisory Committee for the 2015 Climate Action Plan.

The Climate Equity Committee (CEC) is an advisory group that will meet monthly and advise staff across the City organization on how to improve or create climate-related projects with an equity lens. The committee will provide perspectives and insights on several projects throughout their tenure. A few more details:

  • Applications for the CEC are currently open and will close at midnight on Friday, June 16th.
  • The CEC is striving to bring the most impacted communities to the center of climate action solutions.
  • Committee members will choose 1 or 2 year terms (July 2023- July 2024 or July 2023 – July 2025).
  • Committee members will be compensated $25/hour.
  • Accommodations for transportation and childcare will be provided as needed.
  • More information and the application are available here.

Even if you don’t think the CEC is the right fit for you at this time, please feel free to share the opportunity with others who you think may be interested. And please let Angela or me know if you have any questions or run into difficulties with the application.

Thank you!

Adelle

Subject: 2023 Community Consultant Program

Hello all,

We are excited to share that this year’s iteration of the OCF Community Consultant Program is now live! It’s taken longer than we anticipated at the beginning of the year, but we hope we’ve used the time to adjust the program to work better for everyone.

We loved working with all of you, and we hope you will consider joining us again this year. We are asking that even folks who have already been part of OCF submit an application. You can find each of the project descriptions and the application form here: https://www.fcgov.com/climateaction/ocf-partnership Please note that you need to expand the Community Consultant Program section using the small plus sign on the right side to see the project descriptions and application.

A few other important details:

  • Individuals may submit a written application OR sign up for a verbal application. We will be posting times that are available for verbal applications in the next week or so.
  • The application period is May 1st through midnight May 31st.
  • Individuals may apply to be a consultant for more than one project; however, they will only be selected to work on one project.
  • The Neighborhood Services Equity Scan project is open to those who speak English or Spanish. You can find the Spanish application here.

The major changes we made from last year to this year are:

  • Offering opportunities that have specific, project-based outcomes (rather than asking for more general support of OCF)
  • Requesting that staff project managers take on getting service agreements signed and invoices processed (this will distribute the work and hopefully limit anything falling through the cracks)
  • Sharing a “resource library” of service agreements, example invoices, and process documentation for project managers
  • Scheduling fewer social gatherings and being intentional about a few throughout the year
  • Holding an orientation meeting for all project managers prior to community consultants starting to align expectations and offer guidance, to provide more similar experiences for all consultants
  • Considering on a project basis if we can exceed $600 (24 hours) – acknowledging that then the community consultant is required to submit with their taxes and this may be a barrier/burden for some

If you don’t feel like the Community Consultant program is a good fit for you this year, keep an eye out for more information on the new Climate Equity Committee, which will be coming later this month. We would also be very grateful if you would like to share both programs with others in the community who you think may be interested.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I’m also always happy to catch up over coffee/tea/ice cream 😊

Thank you,

Adelle

Hello Caesar,

Thank you for sharing this information, and it looks like we missed the June 16th deadline (I was away last week and officially returned to the office on Tuesday). Nevertheless, I will share this information with our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Board Members, and our Climate Smart/Future Ready/Sustainability Program Manager. In terms of insights, I would encourage you to connect with our EDI Board that meets monthly - next meeting is 6/28 at 6 PM. You could contact Jelitza G. Martinez for more details, garc...@co.larimer.co.us.
