GROUNDSWELL: GRASSROOTS LOCAL TO NATIONAL RENEWAL
In national politics, U.S. Supreme Court gutted the U.S. Voting Rights Act in April. This sent the gerrymandering frenzy into high-gear. There are currently 10 states with freshly gerrymandered maps for the 2026 midterms.

Political scientists have been imploring the nation to move to the proportional ranked choice voting (pRCV) proposed in Longmont. It builds a more neighborly democracy because it gives everyone their fair share of the say, regardless of race or viewpoint. It means that if about a third of the people where you are share your viewpoint, your viewpoint gets about a third of the representation.

RCV for Longmont's measure will bake fairness into the system. It will ensure that there is a seat at the table for just about everyone. PRCV is currently being used in Portland, Oregon. Election records show that 98% of voters got at least a second-choice candidate into office. Here in Colorado, we know that only 33% of voters have representation for their values in congress.

A win in Longmont is a big step in Colorado's journey to form a more perfect union. Come be part of it!

Pick-one plurality roulette strikes again

SUPPORT FOR WINNERS UNCLEAR IN TWO RACES
Two of the high-profile races in the June primary had unclear wins – where around 60% of the voters said they wanted someone else. We do not know if the ultimate winner was a matter of chance or legitimate support. The problem is that their support was split among other candidates.

PICK-ONE FAILS EVERYONE
These weak plurality wins are unfair to the candidates, the parties and the voters. Even the winners don't have the clout that they would have if the races had bee run with ranked choice voting (RCV).

  • Would the Bottom's voters have supported Kirkmeyer because she has more experience getting roads paved?
  • Would the Doshi and Dougherty voters have supported Seligman because he has more legal experience presenting cases to court?
We do not know what would have happened if the voters had been free to fully vote their values and that erodes trust in the system of elections. This is not the moment in history for this outdated system.

The good news is that the state already has the rules, know-how, and actual experience to reliably run RCV elections.

GRASSROOTS PEOPLE POWER SINCE 2016
RCV for Colorado is an independent, people-powered organization. The team includes experts with advance degrees and election administration experience who review university studies to avoid being sold a bill of goods by slick national organizations. Our team has the freedom to follow research to pursue policies that are fair to all concerned. (Yes, there are a few flabbergasted wall street people.)

If that is in line with both your values, consider donating today. We always need more handbills for our voter education tables.
