This month at CASA of Larimer County

May 2024

We are so excited to share that the Harmony House addition is progressing nicely! Last month, volunteers, staff and community partners were invited to sign one of the roof trusses. Over the last few weeks, the construction team has put up our exterior walls and roof, installed windows for the brand-new space, and cut & poured the new accessible ramp and walkway.

Check out pictures from our truss signing last month below, and stay tuned for more updates on the Harmony House addition project! We are so excited to share more news as the project continues. Thank you to COLLAB Architecture & Swift Builders for their work on the addition.

Congratulations, CASA Volunteers!

In 2023, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. Congratulations to our incredible CASA Volunteers who received the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2024!

Monthly Mission Moment

Our Family Case Managers work individually with each Family Connections client to develop trust, establish goals for service, and make them comfortable as they begin family time services.

One parent visiting her children was nervous to reconnect with her kids at the Harmony House. She leaned heavily on her Family Case Manager (FCM), asking for advice before and after each visit. Her FCM worked with her to address her anxieties using TBRI® tools, tips, and strategies. The FCM assured Mom that consistency and a positive attitude would help her and her children feel more comfortable with one another again. As the visits progressed, Mom continued to practice consistency and positivity. Her FCM watched as both Mom and her children began to enjoy each visit more and more. As this family worked to repair their relationships, Mom and the non-visiting parent were able to work together to create a parenting plan which involved moving to unsupervised family time. Mom sent a huge thank you to her FCM and the Family Connections team after her first unsupervised visit, thanking the team for helping her and her children feel comfortable together.

TBRI® Testimonials

Since 2022, our TBRI® program has provided trauma-informed education, support, and resources to parents and caregivers. We are excited to share feedback from two of our TBRI® class participants below.

"It made me aware of how important connecting is. There are other aspects that can get in the way of your child's behavior. It gave me a better way of responding to things - I didn't respond because I didn't want to hurt her feelings, but now I can respond when it's smaller and do it more playfully. Pretty much, I have more tools now." - Class participant

"I can't believe this class is over, it didn't even feel like it was 8 weeks long. I really enjoyed this class, I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. I have taken this before, so I was hesitant, but the way you deliver it and teach it, really made the class relatable, and it made me feel like I could actually put into practice what we went over. It was very helpful to learn about the attachment cycle and the different types of attachment, it helped me understand the different reasons and types of attachments I and my kids, and now also my grandkids, have. It was also helpful to have that cultural view from someone that knows the culture and grew up in a Mexican household, but still be able to practice all these TBRI tools. I know I already said a lot already, but I really really enjoyed the class." - Class participant

Board Corner

“Being part of the Board gave me an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children experiencing abuse and neglect. Thank you, Janna West-Kowalski!
