April 2025

Heads up shadows

A letter from our Chief Executive Officer:

This time last year I described the work of the CCLP team as being in “full swing.” Considering the current energy at the state legislature with budget negotiations, passionate testimony on divisive issues such as immigration, gender-affirming care, and the Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights (TABOR), I would describe our experience this year as being in full "tilt-a-whirl." It’s a wild and chaotic ride.

We are providing public testimony on bills supporting an antipoverty agenda. We’re publishing issue briefs providing expert analysis of pressing topics being decided at the state and national levels. We’re training other nonprofits on how to engage in advocacy and be an effective part of the fight for justice for all Coloradans. And we’re providing resources to our most vulnerable community members, so they understand their legal rights and have the support to pursue them.

Given the dramatic changes within the federal government, this work will not be slowing down once the Colorado legislative session ends next month. We will continue to fight for consumer protections, healthcare coverage, and civil rights at the national level. One thing you can do to support these ongoing efforts is to become a CCLP Rights Defender — see more below and please share with your friends and family!

With gratitude for this community,

Lydia McCoy

Issue Brief: Errors and Weaknesses in the Paragon Report

Historically, rulemaking by federal agencies has been well-supported by evidence and legal authority. However, in recent rulemaking that affects operations of the federal and state ACA marketplaces, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services relies inappropriately on a flawed report.
