Happy Spring John,

We're happy to share some recent updates from our work protecting kids from today's THC products. In encouraging news, the United States House Agriculture Committee did not introduce or include any amendments that would delay the closure of the Federal Intoxicating Hemp Loophole during the recent 2026 Farm Bill markup.

This preserves the imminent closure of the loophole and marks a significant step toward ending the widespread sale of intoxicating hemp-derived THC products in gas stations, convenience stores, smoke shops, and online where they have often been sold with little or no safeguards to protect children.

“We have been sounding the alarm on the risks these intoxicating hemp products pose to children since 2018,” said Diane Carlson, our National Policy Director, in a statement earlier this month. “By keeping the November 2026 implementation date in place, Congress is reaffirming its unwavering commitment to protecting the health, safety, and futures of our nation’s kids.”

One Chance will continue to ensure the hemp loophole closure remains on schedule for this November.

In the News

  • Free Webinar on the 23rd: One Chance’s Julie Dreifaldt will be joining Denver Public Schools for a free webinar on Monday March 23rd at 12pm MDT to discuss the impacts of THC, hemp, and kratom on youth and share strategies for parents and trusted adults on how to approach these topics with kids.
  • Expansive Review Finds Little Evidence of Marijuana Benefits: A new study published in Lancet Psychiatry finds that after a review of 45 years of research, there is little to no evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain or mental health conditions.
  • Texas Set to Ban Smokable Intoxicating Hemp: The state of Texas is banning the sale of intoxicating hemp ‘flower’ effective March 31st, 2026. Legal hemp plants under the previous federal definition from the 2018 Farm Bill (supposed to be non-intoxicating) were being cultivated with THCA, which breaks down into THC at about an 88% rate when smoked. The imminent ban is a big win for keeping intoxicating hemp products out of the hands of kids.
