Dear Commissioners,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek your guidance on the next steps for advocating change in Loveland regarding the display of the Equality Flag.
I have been informed that current city policy only permits the American flag to be flown at city buildings. However, I have observed that other cities, such as Fort Collins and Boulder, are able to fly various flags on city poles. I would like to understand what steps I can take to discuss and potentially amend this policy for Loveland.
Unfortunately, my previous attempts to address this matter with the city council have not been fruitful. Responses have included concerns about having to allow all types of flags, including those of hate groups, which I find deeply concerning and inappropriate. The Equality Flag represents inclusion and equality, fundamentally different from any symbols of hate or division.
Could you provide insight into what actions can be taken at the commissioner level, or share information on how other towns handle their policies regarding flag displays? Understanding these policies and the processes involved would greatly assist in my efforts to advocate for this important change.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter. I understand your schedules are demanding, but addressing this issue is crucial for making Loveland a more inclusive and supportive community for the LGBTQIA+ population.
Best regards,
Kat McManus
