MEDIA ADVISORY
LISA ROY TO ADDRESS EARLY LEARNING CENTER GRAND OPENING
DENVER – Dr. Lisa Roy is a keynote speaker at the grand opening of the Tamara M. Sparks Early Learning Center tomorrow, May 18th, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. The center is being opened by Mile High United Way, and will be operated by Mile High Early Learning. Dr. Roy’s remarks will detail her personal history with Mile High United Way, the importance of public-private non-profit collaboration to the state’s work, and the $505,000 contributed to the opening of this landmark early learning center by the Department of Early Childhood through state and federal stimulus funding.
Mile High United Way takes on critical human services issues in seven Colorado counties, including the Metro Denver, Boulder, and Broomfield communities. Through community programs and initiatives, it focuses on our three interconnected Community Priorities: giving all children a strong start, supporting education and academic success, and creating economic opportunity for all.
The opening of the Tamara M. Sparks Early Learning Center comes at a crucial time for Five Points-area families, as the district is considered a child care desert. The center will serve 60 children ages 0-5, with at least 42 of those seats available to families eligible for the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program.
