Hello,

The grocery bag ban has been in effect for a while and I’ve been awaiting the next step in eliminating single use plastics. Seeing none, I propose a regulation to ban stores from packaging their meats, bakery items, etc. in plastic wrap, plastic baggies, single use plastic bags, and any other single use plastics, and to require that they use 100 percent compostable packaging.

Plastic wrap takes 10-1000 years to decompose.
It contains microplastics and chemicals that harm our bodies. This proposal is therefore even more important than grocery bags.

This might be low hanging fruit in the next step in the plastics fight. Naively, I don’t see why this couldn’t be implemented immediately. Stores could be required to order their next batch of supplies to comply with the “100 percent compostable” requirements, while being allowed to use up their existing inventory of plastic.

Thank you,
Janine Gentile
