Dear Board Chair Pro Tem John Kefalas,

I am writing to ask you to support a ballot initiative to take action on the crisis we are facing.

With wildfires in Maui and Canada, record heat waves in Arizona, and Europe, flooding in major cities around the world, and record ocean temperatures and loss of sea ice, there is no denying that human-caused climate change is upon us. We have already suffered far too many wildfires, floods, and mudslides here in Colorado. We also suffer from severe ozone in the Denver Metro and Northern Front Range area. Fracking emits huge amounts of both greenhouse gasses and ozone precursors - it is by far the #1 source. Ozone harms the most vulnerable of us the most, the very young, the very old, and those with respiratory issues. Climate change affects us all. We must act now.The Safe & Healthy Colorado coalition is sponsoring a ballot initiative to phase out new fracking permits by 2030. As there are already over 55,000 oil and gas wells in Colorado that will be in production for many years to come , we have plenty of oil and gas to see us through a fair and just transition to a clean energy economy.

I urge you to endorse this important ballot initiative to phase out new fracking permits in Colorado by 2030! Please visit the Safe & Healthy Colorado's Elected Officials Endorsement Page to add your endorsement: https://tinyurl.com/NoNewFrack. There is a link to the ballot initiative language in the endorsement form - "measure 1" is the relevant language.

Did you know that the oil and gas industry contributes only 3.3% to Colorado's GDP and accounts for only 0.7% of Colorado's jobs, while directly causing over $1.3 billion in damages annually? Check out the Colorado Fiscal Institute’s full report at https://www.coloradofiscal.org/costs-benefits-oil-and-gas-colorado/library/reports/

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Laura Flanary
