Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

What a great pleasure to be connecting with you all for the first time as the new Executive Director of Colorado Center on Law and Policy! A brief introduction: I’ve spent my career advancing thriving communities inclusive of all Coloradans, having served in executive leadership roles for three statewide nonprofits in our state, two of which were advocacy and coalition-building organizations. I have deep practice and commitment to CCLP’s core values of equity, integrity, strategic advocacy, collaboration, and community engagement. And I could not be more thrilled to have found my new professional home with this organization.

My focus this first month has been getting to know this brilliant and dedicated staff and Board teams and learning more about CCLP’s many accomplishments and opportunities as well as its challenges. Each individual in this organization feels a personal connection to CCLP’s north star of envisioning a Colorado where everyone has what they need to succeed. For some, that means engaging in direct legal or legislative action. For others, it looks like deepening our understanding of the barriers to success. For others still, that means creating a supportive environment in the office and the public for us to be our best. I am so impressed and inspired by how this team works together and supports each other, and I feel incredibly grateful to get to be a part of it.

In the coming months, I look forward to meeting many of you in collaborative spaces, over coffee or lunch, and through our work in the community. One of CCLP’s great strengths is the organization’s commitment to cultivating and nurturing productive, resilient relationships with the many public and private partners in this work. This approach allows us to make an impact with what we uniquely bring to the table, whether that’s in a leadership role or a supporting role. At CCLP we prioritize people, whether through direct advocacy, active listening, or uplifting others’ work. I’m committed to upholding this priority in my new role, and I can’t wait to see what we can all accomplish together.

Prepared every few years for CCLP by the Center for Women’s Welfare at the University of Washington, the Self-Sufficiency Standard calculates how much income a family must earn to meet basic needs without public or private assistance based on family composition in each of Colorado’s 64 counties.

Extra! Extra! HEAR all about it!

CCLP's Research Director, Charles Brennan, was a guest on this week's episode of Elevated Denver's Podcast, Hidden Populations: Working & Priced Out. Using the state's Self-Sufficiency Standard, Charles provided context about wages and costs in Colorado.
