Happy Friday!

We are excited to inform you of the selected applicant communities for the 2026 Community Mitigation Grant awards. We have selected 16 different communities across the county to receive an award; it should be another year of great projects! Attached is a list of the recipient communities, as well as an applications summary.

Of course we couldn't provide an award to all, but after careful evaluations and deliberation we tried to provide as much support as we could to as many communities as we could. We took the same approach as previous years and provided a number of partial awards.

Awarded projects will help to fund a range of activities, including: wildfire mitigation treatments and hazardous fuels removal, community slash chipping programs,  important outreach & education efforts, and the acquisition of equipment, tools and supplies for community use. To highlight: a few projects will fund the creation and management of community firewood banks, and we'll also partner with the Estes Valley Board of Realtors on a Mountain Pine Beetle Outreach (MPB) program. All projects also incorporate neighbors working together, with many projects including neighborhood mitigation work days.

It was also another record year of interest in the program. We received 41 proposals this year with a total requested funding amount of $341,977. Breaking the records we set last year, this represents the highest number of applications and the highest total requested funding we've ever received. See below for trend of proposals received and requested funding, by year. The program continues to grow and is eliciting a good deal of interest among our communities.

Additionally, this year we are working with the Estes Valley FPD on a fund & program partnership. They've expressed interest in providing some additional funding to help cover awards for selected proposals in the Estes Valley. The EVFPD Board will be discussing this partnership at their June 1 meeting and will decide whether to authorize funding for this or not (likely an additional ~$36k). Background: Over half of this year's applications came from the Estes Valley. EVFPD is strongly considering developing a similar, parallel community mitigation program and this year might afford a good learning year for them to work with us and see how we do it as they consider launching their own program in the future.

As always, thanks for your support of this program and for this important work and don't hesitate to shout if any questions!
