We are aware that there are ongoing reports of a COVID-19 death in Del Norte County. Public Health has been able to trace the report back to a news outlet, but thus far has found nothing to substantiate the report. Though the investigation into this statement is still ongoing, Public Health has received no verified reports of a COVID-19 related death in Del Norte County.

This case is still currently under investigation and is self-isolating at home. One of the active cases is still hospitalized. There have been no verified reports of a COVID-19 related death in Del Norte County and no inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison have been reported as testing positive.

One new confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported. As with the rest of the nation, we are experiencing lag times between commerical testing and reporting of results. This delay in reporting is approximately 9-12 days after testing, which means that this new case has already completed isolation and is considered recovered. Contact tracing has been completed, and all close contacts have been identified and placed in quarantine. All of our active cases have completed isolation, and are recovered. Due to this delay in local health departments receiving test results, we encourage the community to be vigilant in following social distancing guidelines, wearing face coverings in public, and minimizing contact with those outside your household.

Another new confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported today in a resident oustide Del Norte County, but who was tested locally. There were four (4) new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Del Norte residents reported. Three of these cases are active, related to a private gathering, and are close contacts of a positive case. Contact tracing has been completed and close contacts have been placed in quarantine and recommended to test. One of the cases is inactive due to the delay in reporting. This new case had already completed isolation and recovered. This case was also a contact to a positive case and had been previously placed on quarantine. Another case was also reported today in a resident outside Del Norte County. The case was transferred to the appropriate juridiction, but is not reflected in the updated positive numbers.

Results from staff testing conducted last week at Pelican Bay State Prison began to arrive today. All of the new positive results are related to staff testing and all positive caes are self-isolating at home, most of whom are asymptomatic. Contact tracing is currently underway and some of the cases are still under investigation. As always, we urge our community to be vigilant in preventing the spread of this virus with proper hand hygeine, social distancing, wearing face coverings in public, and staying home when possible.

Public Health continued to receive reports of new confirmed cases from Pelican Bay State Prison staff. All of the positives reported today are related to PBSP and all positive cases are self-isolating at home. Contact tracing is currently underway and some cases are still under investigation. Other positive cases were reported today, but were residents of Curry County and are not reflected in Del Norte County's total. Nearly all of the new cases from PBSP staff are asymptomatic. With this in mind, we continue to urge our residents to be diligent in preventing the spread of this virus through proper hand hygeine, proper social distancing, and wearing face coverings in public.

There were four (4) positive cases reported to Public Health today. The first case was a household contact to a known case. The second case was reported late to Public Health, after the isolation period would have been complete. The third case was a contact to a positive case in another jurisdiction. The fourth case is still under investigation. Contact tracing is either completed or underway for all four cases. Currently, one active case is hospitalized for COVID-19 symptoms and another active case is hospitalized for issues unrelated to COVID-19. There were twelve (12) new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 reported to Public Health today. Two (2) of these cases are inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) and four (4) are PBSP employees. Public Health has been coordinating with PBSP and CDCR to investigate positive cases and place all positives in isolation and notify and quarantine all close contacts. Of the remaining positives, four (4) are travel-related and two (2) have been investigated and deemed community spread. We at Public Health would like to remind our community to please continue to take precuations in order to slow the spread of COVID-19, including wearing a face covering in public, keeping at least 6 feet away from others outside of your household, limiting travel outside the immediate area, limiting gatherings, and washing hands frequently.
