What’s Buzzin’ CNH!

My name is Ryan Lin and I serve as YOUR Membership Growth Chair for the 2025-2026 term. With the new year comes a very important time: elections and transition of power! As clubs start to elect their new boards and choose their next leadership, it is very important that they understand the role they are stepping into and make the best decision. In this email, I will go over the most common roles on a club officer board and what each position entails; this includes:

President

Vice President

Treasurer

Secretary
Editor (News/Media)


Presidents


Presidents are KEY to a successful club. They serve as a liaison between the club and division, aiding in the success of the club and the division alike. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Appointing and delegating tasks

  • Setting club goals

  • Communication with division and sponsoring Kiwanis

  • Motivating members and board members

  • Ensure all submissions are completed on time

Essential traits: strong leadership ability, ability to speak in front of large groups, decision making, strong communication skills

Vice Presidents


Vice presidents are also essential to a club’s success, assisting the president in their duties as well as stepping in when the president is absent. The following are but not limited to the duties of a vice president(s):

  • Communication with president

  • Assisting president with their tasks

*There can be multiple vice presidents*

  • Focus on specific role/focus

    • Depending on if each vice president covers different domains (ex. Vice president of fundraising, vice president of graphics, etc.)

Treasurer


The job of the treasurer involves holding fundraisers to raise club funds. However, most importantly, club treasurers pay for dues through the Membership Update Center (MUC), ensuring that all club members are dues paid members. The following are but not limited to the duties of a treasurer:

  • Keep accurate financial records of all transactions

  • Work with school body to approve fundraisers and expenditures 

  • Collect and send dues from club members through the MUC

  • Work with the secretary to maintain accurately input members into the MUC (beginning of year)

  • Host consistent fundraisers to raise money (PTP, Fall Rally, Club)

Essential Traits: strong organizational abilities, responsibility (HANDLING MONEY!!), strong communication skills

Secretary


Secretaries perform lots of the behind-the-scenes work, but are incredibly important to the success of a club. Not only do they ensure all club meetings are logged correctly, they input members into the Membership Update Center (MUC), and fill out Monthly Report Forms (MRF) to submit to the division. The duties of a secretary include but are not limited to:

  • Take accurate meeting minutes are club and board meetings

  • Communicate with club board and division for updates

  • Check email regularly

  • Submit MRF to division by 5th of every month at 6PM Local time

  • Work with treasurer to input members into the MUC

Editors


Editors can be split into two categories, media and news editors. Both editors are equally important in ensuring that club events/information are properly advertised through social media. The duties of an editor include but are not limited to:

  • Create appealing graphics to advertise events

  • Measure and maintain social media accounts

  • Submit articles and visuals by the 15th of every month at 6PM local time

  • Submit newsletters by the 20th of every month at 6PM local time

  • Ensure all graphics follow graphic standards
