Is the gateway and DNS set up properly for that VM? It would seem so since you are able to ping the server. Can you show the ifconfig settings from the VM and compare them to what you entered when you deployed the .ova?

Hello,

I am trying to install Pivotal CF on vSphere.
Following these guidelines I successfully deployed the ova file.
I have troubles configuring the vSphere installation using the Ops Manager.

I cannot configure the NTP server. I got the following error:
I tried with different NTP servers, but without success.
I logged in the Pivotal CF Virtual Machine and verified that I have ping to the NTP server.

Any idea what might be wrong? Are there any log files I can look in for more details on the error?

Thanks,
Peter

P.S. Apologise if this this is not the right place to ask this.

I'm pretty sure NTP communicates via UDP on port 123.  Does the machine in question have outbound network access on port 123.

0.pool.ntp.org will resolve to different ntp servers depending on where you are calling from.

If you have ntpq/ntp tools in the vm/similar source..
I'd just troubleshoot it first the same way I'd traditionally..
Ilove# ntpq -p
remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
==============================================================================
*time.apple.com  17.168.198.149   2 u  515  512  377  110.465   42.714   1.727
Ilove# ntpq
ntpq> debug more
debug level set to 1
ntpq> debug more
debug level set to 2
ntpq> debug more
debug level set to 3
ntpq> lpeers
Sending 12 octets
Got packet, size = 16
Packet okay
remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
==============================================================================
Sending 12 octets
Got packet, size = 468
Packet okay
Got packet, size = 132
Packet okay
*time.apple.com  17.168.198.149   2 u    6  512  377  110.604   43.456   1.798

But, then again, I'm only guessing based on debugging the traditional network/unix/hardware platform..
I'd also guess a fw/filter/nat/network/udp block issue, cause 9/10 times lack of udp in that way hoses any co-ordinated platform..
(And yeah, I'd resort to the tool or some/packet debugger, because today, pool.ntp.org is a moving target on where it's dished out from.

the best place to ask pivotal cf product questions is pivotal support site. you can submit a ticket here [1]. general cloud foundry questions are welcome here, but i think you'll find pivotal support to be timely, responsive and familiar with pivotal cf troubleshooting.

Thank you,
